I am one of those woman I use to hate

Mariah

I just had my third baby two days ago. With my first two I had huge struggles with breastfeeding- bad latches and low supply paired with inverted nipples. I was sure this baby would be no different.

The week before the baby arrived I pumped daily, hoping to draw the nipples out. Not a single drop came out during these pump sessions ranging from 5 to 15 minutes but I didn’t stress too much because it was more about getting the nipples ready than getting milk- I didn’t want to have to go to the hassle of storing the colostrum either.

While in the hospital I asked for advice and help from every nurse- the support I got was night and day to my other two. I think part of it was a well trained staff but the other part was I wasn’t too embarrassed or proud to ask for all the help I could get and I think I had been for my first two.

So this evening when my two day old couldn’t be bothered to stay awake to nurse I decided to hand express the way they showed me. I got more milk than one side for my two day old than I used to get pumping for my older son when he was 5 months old.

I will not for a moment take for granted my new baby and my nursing success. I know we still have a long road ahead of us and there will probably be some pumps. I am so over the moon that I may have an enjoyable nursing experience this time around. Guess third time really is the charm!
