Is it weird?

Question

My best friend (who I’ve known her and her family since I was in high school) invited me  and my boyfriend to her brothers graduation. I’ve known her brother the same amount of time that I’ve known he and consider him like my own big brother too. 
My boyfriend has to work on that day but I was gonna go to keep my best friend company since she doesn’t really get along with her mom and doesn’t know his friends. 
He thinks it’s weird and finds it  offensive that I’m going.

go, your boyfriend will be alright. tell him to stop being insecure because you're going for your best friend, not her brother.

You need to go because if you don’t then he will keep telling you what you can and cannot do and you need to nip that in the bud from the start.

Why would it be offensive or even remotely weird? That's your best friend and you've known her brother for the same amount of time. I would go support my best friend and her brother.
