What would you do?

Should I allow my daughters father back in our lives when he left and abandoned us? He wants to let bygones be bygones and leave everything in the past as if nothing happened. He chose drugs and alcohol over us. He didn’t allow me to put his name on my daughters birth certificate either, so I decided to give her my last name. I feel like I can’t let him back into my life because there is just too much pain and darkness where we left off. But I believe my daughter deserves a father, but I’m not sure if I want a man like him anywhere near my daughter. Should I allow him to see my daughter or not? He’s been bugging several times lately- only through text though. But his emotions still seem on and off and at times he almost seems as if he’s demanding me to let him see her.
