Question About Changing Partners

I was in a relationship with one guy for just about a year and a half, and he was the only person I'd ever had sex with. During our relationship, I got two infections and had small pains with sex. My gyno gave me antibiotics for each and they've gone away, but I'm nervous about testing and whatnot because I may be getting with a new partner soon and I'm worried about spreading anything/my vaginal health in general. Is it too much of me to go to my gyno and asked to get checked out before then? What would I say?
