Rhogam Shot???

My doctor told me I have a prescription being put through for this... can someone tell me if I have to have this or has anyone else had it? I googled it but I’m just not understanding.

You have to get it if your blood type is negative and the baby's father's blood type is positive. I am O- and he's O+ so I had to get it and will get it again with my second. They normally do it about 28 weeks. I had to go to the hospital and have blood drawn and then go home and then they called me back in to give me the shot.

I have had this shot multiple times. You must have a negative blood type like O- for example. If your husband has a positive blood type the baby’s blood could be incompatible with yours. It’s more of a precaution because if there is any bleeding or spotting and the blood types mix, you could have more serious issues later. Like if you don’t get the shot and the blood did mix, there’s a chance your body could reject future babies or blood transfusions if you ever need one. I’d say after researching myself, I’d rather get one than not. Hope this helps!

never hesitate to call and talk to your Dr if you don't really understand anything they tell/want you to do, but you need to get it and you'll get one after birth also!

Just google rh negative. That’s weird that your doc didn’t tell you about it. If your baby is a positive blood type, you can create antibodies that attack positive blood type babies for future pregnancies. It’s pretty important.

Anyone with a negative blood type has to get it just incase the baby has positive blood. If that happens your body could potentially create antibodies against the baby. but getting that shot at 28 weeks will prevent that. I have O- so I have to get it too.
