Real gems or fake gems?

A lot of older women say if he dosent get you a real ring or diamond then don't marry him, or he's no good. Do you care if it's diamond or cubic zirconium? My husband wanted to get me a real ring but I told him that it was silly to spend that much on something like that so he went and got one that is sterling silver but has a fake diamond for $100. It's just as beautiful as any of the diamond rings I see and no one asks if it's real.
