Baby Shoes???

Ok, so I followed the rules about not putting shoes on baby until he was walking so as not to hinder foot development. He started taking steps independently a month ago but just started preferring walking over crawling last week. I went to buy him his first pair of shoes and he HATES them. All of the different kinds I've tried, on multiple different occasions. He screams like he's being tortured. He cries giant tears within 15 seconds of trying the shoes on. Has anyone else had a barefoot baby like mine? Did they just eventually allow you to put shoes on them? We live in Southern California so the shoe thing isn't urgent (warm weather, plenty of grass to walk on barefoot, no major biting risks from snakes or other creepy crawlies) but I'm just envisioning my son going barefoot to Kindergarten 😂😅😳
