Please help?! Toddler travel?

Question

I really need some advice, input, suggestions on travel with an almost 2 year old. We really need to take a 3 hour flight to see family, but the thought of the whole travel process is SO stressful for both of us. Our child hates being confined and really is a big time active mover. Hates short car rides and isn’t an easy sleeper either. Any input would help so much! Thanks! 🙏

KIDDING! I don’t advocate unnecessarily drugging a child...
Seriously, I’d consider all bets to be off...even if you’re anti-screen time I’d use tablets/smartphones/whatever to keep your child happy and you sane. I’d also pack any favorite, travel friendly snacks you can. Try to sell the trip as an adventure and use those tools to make your child (and you) as comfortable as possible. My little guy LOVES books so I’d bring a few of those too.

The best travel advice I recently received was to keep a bag of toys/activities with you. As the toddler gets bored, pull out something new and put the last toy back in the bag. This way it’s like they keep getting something new even if it’s really just 5 or 6 things being rotated because by the time they’ve had fun with the 6th toy they will be interested in toy #1 again. The important thing is that only you control the bag because the second the child has access to it they’ll just pull it all out and be over it quickly lol. I did this on a recent trip and it worked really well. I also completely agree with allowing screen time if your little one will be into it. It will save you so much stress that it’s totally worth it.

We brought an ipad downloaded with movies and TV shows, a coloring book with ultrawashable crayons, snacks, a water cup and this sticker book. She has zero interest in the ipad. They coloring book kept her entertained for a while (it was a 4 he flight). The sticker book kept her the most entertained though, for like 2 hours just the stickers! I saved it for the flight, so it was  a new novelty item, and she LOVED it!
