Is Your Kid Your "Everything?"

Question

I see posts on Facebook where people make this claim, so it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with me because I don't feel this way about my kid. I love my son, but I'm not "in love" with him, like some people say.  Hell, I'm trying to be "in love" with my husband, but I'm struggling with that too. Can any of you identify with me or help me out?

No, my kids are not my entire world. I love my kids to death! But my whole life does not revolve around them. I am also a wife, and a nail technician, I have hobbies that I love, I would go insane if every single thing I did had to revolve around them.

Before having kids I never understood this mentality, but now I do, yes my daughter is my entire world, heart and soul and I’m in awe of her every single day. Definitely would say “in love.” However it took a little while to feel that way. Maybe it’s just too early for you.

I don’t think you’re wrong for not feeling the way many do. However, my daughter is hands down the most important thing in my entire world. I have plenty of room to love my husband, family, and friends, but my daughter is literally the strongest love I could ever imagine. If you just mean that you still love other things, and can walk away and get stuff done without obsessing over your child, that’s totally ok. If you really don’t feel a strong love for your child (and your husband, as you stated) it’s possible you’re struggling with depression. I obviously don’t have enough info to say that with any certainty, but it’s possible.

My daughter is my everything! Before having her, I would always hear people say things like that, but I never understood it. The day she was born, everything made sense. I have accomplished a lot, but no degrees, licenses, credentials or anything amounts to bring a mother. I am proud of many things, but being a mother is my best accomplishment! She is my world, my everything! I finally understand why my mom is so obsessed with me!!! A mother's love is truly unconditional!

My daughter is my everything. I too am one of those that didnt understand what ppl meant unil i actually had her. She is my life. I wake up for her, go to work for her, do everything for her and to make her happy.  i got divorced right after she was born so now i dont have her 2 days a week and it makes my love for her even stronger. Like i see ppl that complain about there kids or bifch that they need a date night or a break or whatever and im just like i would give anything to have my daughter every day. Theres nothing i would rather do than be with her. 
But not everyone is like that. Everyone has different mindsets and different situations. 
When she was first born her dad just drank every night and would leave the house whenever he could bc he just didnt feel the same way i did. I mean he no doubt loves his daughter, i will never say that he doesnt but he just didnt get that parenting instinct that some ppl geti guess. I also didnt have really any hobbies befor so being a mom filled the void that i had in my life. Some ppl are super busy parenting and doing things that make them happy to and rhats ok as long as the child feels loved and is taken care of.

Your child is only yours for a short amount of time. They get older, go to school, get married, and have kids of their own. 
I’m currently pregnant with my first child, and I do love him, but I do know that I can’t be his world forever, so then that means he can’t be my world. 
I made a commitment to my husband, and that is a forever commitment. Long after our son is an adult with his own kids, I’ll still be with my husband. Both relationships are important, and the love is different. In the end, my son can’t be mine forever. When he gets married, I expect him to put his romantic relationship before his relationship with me. Seems kind of silly if I don’t do the same.

My son is definitely my everything!!! Even when there is time away from him while at summer daycare, all I can do is think of what he is doing? Is he having fun? Look at videos and pictures of him. Sounds a little weird but I didn’t have parents that put me first so I always make sure that my son is always my main priority. He is disciplined and very well mannered. Just because he is my everything doesn’t mean he lacks parental guidance. In our household we have manners, morals, and teach important values in life. So far so good! He’s will be 8 in October so whatever we are doing I feel is working.
