what is the best sewing machine for beginners?

hi ladies :)

i am very petite and almost always have to have my clothes hemmed/fixed (unless i shop in the kids department). i decided i would save some money in the long run and even learn how to make some items for myself by purchasing a sewing machine!

what is the best sewing machine for beginners? if you own the machine you are referring can you please list pros and cons as well as how long you have had it for!

And it is my maternal great-grandmother's and it used to be a tredle and was turned electric. It is still in use, same parts, by my young cousin. I am almost 32 now....so ya. They sew through den III m, leather, corset stuff, costuming.....anything!

I have a brother ds140... which seems to have gone up in price. It has a lot of stich options. It's was easy for a beginner to thread and it has a needle threader. It can do button holes. I've found it very easy to use.

My mum bought one too after I got into sewing and she wanted to.

The old Singer made of metal and built into the foldy table. I was six when I learned. I never busted it! Those things are practically unbreakable! I was freaking SIX!
