Pap Smear Question

I'm 21 and just went to the family doctor for the first time. My doctor suggested scheduling to get a pap smear (there's doctors who do it there so I don't have to go to the gyno) and I got an appointment scheduled for next month.

I have never had sex before and I am NOT sexually active or have anything else going on that I know of and that I should be worried about. I'm really nervous and scared about this though, does it hurt? what do they do? Please help.
