Weird Period: Spotting, Awful Cramps, Bright Red Blood

I have had mostly irregular/sometimes regular period my whole life, so weird periods don't really phase me much. But the past three days I had very very little brown spotting, which I was like okay my maybe it will be light this month. Then this morning I woke up with the worst cramps I've had since I the day I first got my period and I started bleeding medium/heavy bright red blood with some clots. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. I will go to my doctor if it gets worse and such... (Note: I am causally TTC with my husband, like not "try try" but if it happens, it happens.)
