How painful is breast reduction surgery?

Please only vote if you have gotten it done or have talked firsthand with someone who has!
I want to get breast reduction but my mom told me she's been told it's extremely painful. Has that been your experience?

I had breast reduction surgery in 2011. I was only in pain for three days after.. But due to the pain meds, I slept off and  on a lot during those days.. The only issue I had/ still have is my nipples are constantly hard / erect.. Having the surgery made the more sensitive.. I was told before the surgery that there was a possibility that I wouldn't have any feeling in my nipples.. Oh and I went from an F cup to a D cup.

This is now.. I'm trying to get my weight down.. Best part about having the surgery : I can shop anywhere for bras.. Even Victoria's Secret!! Good luck to you!!

It really depends on the person's pain threshold. For some people it's very manageable, for some people it's extremely painful. I worked for a plastic surgeon for many years and people honestly handled it differently. We had some people who took their painkillers and were fine, there was one woman in particular I remember who needed another seven days of her schedule five painkillers because she just couldn't handle it (she asked for ANOTHER seven days but we denied and told her to go get over the counter pain meds- she really didn't need three weeks worth of schedule five painkillers).

My cousin had one done she said it’s was a little painful but she also had 4 c sections so she probably use to the pain

So I personally have not had one but my mom got one last year. She had a drainage tube attached to her after surgery and she needed help with basic tasks for weeks because she couldn't lift her arms. She did go back to work sooner than recommended but if you knew my mom you would expect nothing less. She's fine now but the recovery was hard just because a lot of things you can't do on your own.

For me, it only hurt for about a week. Getting the stitches removed was pretty painful. They were pretty sore for a few weeks too. It was completely worth it and I'd do it again. I went from a DDD to a B

They give you pain meds so it’s manageable. It was well worth any pain for me and honestly I slept for like 3 days after surgery lol what I would recommend is getting a body pillow because you will only be able to sleep on your back. It allows you to turn slightly on your side and rest your boobs on the pillow. 
But painful enough to not get the surgery? Absolutely not.

I was on Ibuprofen only after 4 days, and up and walking hours after my surgery. The pain you feel is nothing compared to the years of back pain you have probably experienced. I would have 50 more reductions if I had to honestly, it's the best thing I've ever done done. 
The important thing is to listen to everything the doctor says, and follow the after care instructions to a T. The outcome of the surgery and the end shape of your breasts greatly depends on how compliant you are with your doctor's instructions. I'm 1 year post surgery (and pregnant), and still very happy with my breasts. You won't regret it!

Sorry, I should have also added that I went from a JJ to a DDD, so I had both stitches and staples. I saved the pain pills I didn't need for when they removed my staples because it isn't exactly pleasant, but definitely not the worst pain I've ever experienced. If you can save some of your pain medication that you don't need, definitely try to. You can use it down the line while you heal.
