How does a gender reveal party work?

In my country It's not common to host a gender reveal party, but I do like the idea of it. Although I have no idea how it Works. Do the parents-to-be organize the party for Friends and family to find out the gender. Or does your doctor sends the gender to Friends to surprise the parents?

My husband and I had the ultrasound technician put the gender in an envelope, and when we filled our box with balloons the day of the reveal party, we gave the envelope to the cashier, and she filled it for us. That way it was a surprise to everyone.

We’re surprising friends and family with the gender announcement. I’m not blinking for a second during our anatomy ultrasound! I don’t want to miss a single image! (I’ve had two concurrent miscarriages) And I confess I’m a little of a control type/independent person and would be nervous about leaving someone else in charge of surprising us.

If you want it to be a total surprise to you as a parent then when you do the anatomy scan you can get the gender sealed and hand it to someone who wants to throw the party. We (the parents) just threw one for each of our families since it’s my first child. One popping a balloon the other cutting a cake.
