Traveling with a newborn?

I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and I’m due on November 22, which is Thanksgiving day this year. My husband and I live across the country from both of our families, and we obviously aren’t going home for Thanksgiving because we could be having a baby that day/weekend, but we’re going back and forth about traveling home for Christmas. Our parents were really upset when we said we might not come home for Christmas, but our baby would be about 1 month old at that point, so flying sounds daunting. Also, a friend said her pediatrician didn’t want her to fly with her baby until she got her 8-week shots because airplanes are so full of germs, especially in the winter when everyone has flus and colds. 
Any advice on the safety and ease of flying and traveling with a newborn? Thank you!

I don’t think I would, personally... baby is still pretty little at that point.. if the parents wanted to see the baby, they could try visiting for a bit instead?

planes are super full of germs, i wouldn't. they can make the effort for you. you will have enough to deal with

I personally wouldn't travel. Baby won't have vaccinations yet and like you said there are so many germs. I wouldn't risk baby's health. Could they visit you? If they do I recommend them getting hotel rooms as you probably won't have the energy to play host while caring for a newborn

My nephew was not allowed to fly until he got his two month shots. There was a family emergency and he got his shots early around 6-7 weeks so that was the earliest his doctor approved him to fly.

There is no way I would travel so many germs and baby is still so delicate at that point. If they are that upset about it they can come to you guys.

I wouldn't fly either with that young of a newborn. If your parents are upset they can either travel to see you or see you next time. 
People can be carriers of germs and not actually be sick. I wouldn't chance it!!

I wouldn’t do it personally, mostly for the vaccine reason. If your parents really want to see baby for Christmas, they can come to you.

I would definitely be very hesitant to fly with a baby who hasn’t had his shots. Airplanes are germ farms because the same air just keeps circulating around.

Aww a turkey baby! I was born the day before thanksgiving in 1988. My birthday falls on it every once in a while.. like last year😉 (The 23rd) and I'm sorry I'm kind of worthless to your question. You'd think the parents would be more understanding. I personally would not fly. I'm not even a germ a phobe and I agree that airplanes are cesspools lol.
