How do I make my baby legally only mine ?

Is the only way a custody battle thing ? He took a completely different route of life when I was pregnant & for some reason I still allowed him to be on the birth certificate & she has his last name. She’s 1 now and he’s probably only seen her not even 10 times. He lives in a different state and I’m the one who constantly drives down for him to see her. I’m sick of it and want her to be mine only

If he has not financially helped in a year and you have proof file financial abandonment. Typically though they only strip parental rights if there is a willing party to adopt. Step father financially supports and emotionally adopts.

Just because he's on the birth certificate doesn't mean he has any legal rights. If you are not married to him and you've never been to court for a custody agreement, legally you have full custody now. The birth certificate just says who the father is and that's all. Just call a lawyer and ask them for some advice if you're worried. You can even get your baby's name changed to your last name. Now the father can take you to court for custody if he wants it but if he isn't interested you can have him sign over all of his rights so that he can't take you to court for custody but if he isn't even involved I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would just get the baby's last name changed.

The birth certificate means nothing. It doesn’t matter if you put the father on it or not. He has to terminate his rights. You can tell him that he won’t have to be responsible for child support and that may help convince him.
