nostril screw confusion (pictured: my nose promise it’s clean but just in case) lol

hi i took out my nostril screw out for the first time tonight and i had a lot of trouble putting it back in but i did, but i think it’s backwards somehow?? like i think the U part is supposed to be facing upward toward the inside of the nostril, not down towards the outside. right now i can see the metal clearly from the side which i could not see before i took it out, and i can also feel it too which i couldn’t before. am i crazy or did i put it in backwards?
