Will I receive any form of maternity pay?

Question

I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant and my due date is 16th January 2019. For the last year I have been out of work, due to university. I start my new job on 2nd July, and plan to take ‘maternity leave’ on 16th December, but I am yet to tell my employer. 
I always assumed I would receive 90% of my usual earnings for 6 weeks, and then £145.18 for the next 20 weeks, before probably returning to work. I will only have been working for my new employer for 24 weeks before I take time off, so am I entitled to anything? I don’t want to discuss this yet as I haven’t even started the job, and I’m not ready to tell anyone my good news. 
I thought I was financially set, but now I am panicking that I will struggle for money once the baby is here!

I’m pretty sure you have to have been working for your employer for 26 weeks on the 15th week before your due date, which means you have to have started working for them one week before you fall pregnant. So most likely you aren’t entitled to statuary maternity pay but you might be entitled to maternity allowance, go on the given website and there’s a questionnaire you fill out to see what you’re entitled to.

It would be worth you hanging on another 2 weeks to make sure you get SMP. If you do decide to leave at 24 weeks service look up the maternity allowance entitlement.

You'd have to work the extra 2 weeks until the beginning of January to make the 26 week mark to be entitled to maternity pay, even maternity allowance from the job centre requires you to work the 26 weeks. Possibly at the discretion of your employer you could take annual leave to make up those extra 2 weeks but they don't have to do that for you.
