Is it unheard of for a 3 mo. old to not know how to latch to breast?

My 3 month old has never latched on to breastfeed by herself. I have always had to squeeze my boob into her mouth. We have also had to use nipple shields to avoid popping off. We have been to a lactation specialist probably 10 times.

this is why my baby is exclusively formula fed. never latched. even with a shield. it was really sad, but a fed baby is best, right?

My daughter couldn’t latch at all without the shield. Over a year now and still using the shield 🙃

my first wouldn't latch without a shield...we made it to 4 months with it before he wouldn't latch with that either :(

They need help latching for a few months. I don’t think my daughter could late properly by herself until maybe 4 months?

It usually means they have some sort of lip or tongue tie.
