What makes you believe in God?

Question

Please don’t start a fight, or say that others are wrong. I myself personally do not believe in a single God. I believe that the universe is my higher power, but, I am very curious as to what made people start believing in God AND why they do believe? Was there signs? Were you raised to believe?

I was raised to believe in God, I believe that if you don’t question any religion, you’re not a real believer. The only “requirement” of Christianity is to have faith. I’m torn between believing God’s words are true/accurate and believing that it’s fabricated to make it sound better. In the Bible, it’s missing his life from 12-30. If you listen to Those Conspiracy Guys on Apple Podcast, they have a show about Jesus Christ and the Vatican, and it really opened my mind up to really question or deep think about what I was taught of how to live.

I believe in God and know Jesus as my savior. I was raised this way but have made my own judgements and know that I am saved. I didn’t get saved as a child as some, I got saved and baptized as an teenager. I always believed in God but knew I was saved as a teenager. I believe because i can see God in everything. A baby being made, the sun setting, and I feel His presence in my decisions and when I pray. That’s just my personal opinion. I don’t live a perfect life but I know that God still loves me and takes care of me.

I was raised up to believe but I actually had so many doubts in the previous years I reall didn’t believe and I got angry with ppl trying to make me believe, it got so bad that I started saying the same thing you did, just believing in a higher power, because I always felt that there was some sort of higher power. However I was also in a place of deep hurt and I had been for the past 4-6years and I wanted to let it go. Well recently after talking to a few close friends I felt the need to read something in the Bible and I did and not only did I get an overwhelming sense of peace but it was like something connected and I just knew it was god telling me it was going to be ok, that he was with me and had always been I just wasn’t listening. After that moment I started believing 100% that he is real and I am by no means perfect now but whenever my life is in chaos I turn to him and everything seems to calm down. 
I don’t know how else to explain it so I hope this helps.

I don't believe any more, but was raised Catholic. I see religion as something that has its importance to many people, and that for them it serves a purpose of giving theirs lives meaning, or structure, or support, or all three. So I think it has its purpose if someone needs it to help them make sense of this crazy world we share.

I was raised Roman Catholic, but I didn’t come to be as religious as I am till about 5 yeas ago. I met this really shitty person I “dated” for about a year. He black mailed me , made me scared of people, gave me my anxiety which I’m just now getting over (partially just who I am obviously to have it but he really peaked it at the time) he made me scared to live and it was just a bad situation all around. But he was very religious and would tell me things like well if I don’t do this I’m going to hell, or if I don’t worship God in a certain way I’m going to hell, and after I finally got him out of my life I started to really think about my religion and what it meant to me . And after all he put me through, I am still very thankful I met him because I don’t know if I would have God in my life without meeting him, not the best way to find your religion/relationship with God .but it really  makes me believe that everything happens for a reason in life .
