Childs fever

So for the last few days my son has been running a fever the lowest I have been able to bring it down to was 101.8 I called his pediatrician he said just keep alternating between Tylenol and motrin. Should I take him through er since doc won't see him? He hasn't had any other symptoms. I don't want to keep giving him Tylenol and motrin is there anything else I can do. I feel so bad he has been just laying around whining for 3 days now
