Will this work?

I met a guy back in November just as a hookup. A week after he moved across the country for a job transfer. He came back in April and we hung out every week. At first I thought it was just sex but some nights I would just sleepover, we went out to dinner, lunch, I meet a lot of his friends. I don't want to put a label on it because I don't want a relationship but we briefly discussed it and he seems kind of interested.

He doesn't like the idea of long distance. I live in the town he's in for college but I'm back home for summer until August. He told me he would date me if I lived in town. Is it worth waiting or should I just keep it how it is when I get back? He's even getting a dog when I come back and he's talking about how the dog won't be lonely, it'll have me when he's at work.
