If your spouse has a drinking problem, should you stop drinking too?

Obviously I won’t ever get drunk, or be drinking around him. But if I meet up with girl friends, would it be ok for me to have a glass of wine?

Just don’t drink in front of him. Be supportive of him and the new way of life, but I think having a drink with friends while he’s not there is totally fine.

I’ll put it this way. I am obese, I been on 1,300
Calorie diet since August 2017. Since then I’ve lost 68 lbs. I been successful because I get support from my SO. He is in his ideal weight and loves food he is the type of person that is able to eat as much as he likes and never gains weight. If he weren’t supportive this journey would be 100x harder.
Look at it as if I was an alcoholic, i would be 11 months sober thanks to my SO support. 
When people support and motivate you, suddenly you become invincible and every goal reachable.

I voted yes. I think someone that was a good spouse would stop drinking AROUND their spouse or in the house to support them. If there's alcohol in the house and your spouse sees you drinking it's going to be harder for them to not be tempted... Like out of respect and moral support you wouldn't drink around them. BUT at the same time I feel like you can drink AWAY from your husband, like you mentioned with your girls on a night out. That's just my opinion.

I don’t think you need to quit drinking since you aren’t the alcoholic. I probably wouldn’t drink around him especially in the beginning.

We don’t keep alcohol in the house. I sometimes have a drink when we go out to dinner or just out in general and he is completely fine with that. I never get sloppy drunk and always brush my teeth as soon as we get home. He’s almost three years sober.

My husband and I met in a bar. Fast forward a few years and alcohol was causing many fights and issues in our relationship. We both decided for our engagement and ultimately our marriage to survive we had to give up alcohol. Best decision!
