Pre-K or not?

Hi parents! I've been a SAHM for a couple of years now and am now pregnant with my 2nd boy. My husband recently quit his job, so we've both been spending a lot of time at home with our 4 yr old son. I may go back to work after my 2nd baby is born and hubby may be a stay at home dad for a while. We recently have been looking into pre-kindergarten schools/programs for our son. However, we have also been thinking about prepping him for school at home since we're home with him. I was wondering if there are any of you that didn't put your kids in preschool and just tried to prep them at home with activities, flashcards, outings, playdates, workbooks, etc. If so, did you feel like your child was prepared for kindergarten?

We did part time Pre-K for my son. It was perfect. We did a lot of at home learning before that but your child learning from you is vastly different than learning from a teacher. You know how to get his attention and know his non verbal cues but he needs to learn how to pay attention to a different person and still be able to learn in a more formatted, less personalized way because that's how public school is. Part day preschool was a great way for him to prepare for kindergarten, it didn't throw him right into full day structure so he eased into it better.

I did pre-k at home for my boys. They were completely prepared for kindergarten. My first born was top of his class and continues to be as he goes into second grade. We do a lot of socialization in other ways

My friend has been a SAHM for 6 years, she has 2 kids. Her kids are so smart and her pediatrician actually told her that she has the perfect situation for her kids, and that one on one learning is so important. Her son never went to pre-k, and off the bat absolutely loved kindergarten and is so eager to learn and one of the most well behaved kids. I think pre-k is definitely optional, not necessary and mostly good for the socialization aspect. But there is so many other ways to socialize your children and teach them to play well with others

my son will b starting kindergarten this year and lemme tell u, I mainly did pre k because of his social skills.  hes such a bright boy. he was very smart b4 going to pre k. but his social skills were not the best. he was very quiet, shy and very attached to me. I kid u not, it took neat 2-3 months to drop him off and for him to not cry about me leaving him there. it broke my heart. I would stand behind the door to see if he stopped crying. as soon as his friends greeted him n hugged him he would stop crying. he had never been to daycare before. always with me. and that was hard on him. eventually it got to the point where he wouldn't even care to say bye to me lol. now hes not that shy little boy. he answers questions to other family member to where before he would just keep quiet. hes loud and outspoken and in the playground makes lots of friends. he learned how to write his name and just alot of things so I personally reccomend it.. now there isnt.a day that goes by that he doesnt ask when does he get to go back to school🤗

I don’t have kids yet but I went to preschool. I loved it. It was a way I socialized with kids my age and had fun learning.

i started kindergarten was i was 4 going on 5. my mom always did puzzles and workbooks with me as a kid. my younger brother after me did a young 5’s program and he started when i was in 2nd grade and he had a slight learning disability, just took him a little longer to get things. my mom had a total of 4 kids and the last two just started with kindergarten! i will not be doing preschool for my children either! i don’t think my husband went to preschool as well
