How much does this normally cost and is it really necessary for the baby?

I did it. My insurance fully covers it for all pregnant women who are 10 weeks along or further, regardless of maternal age. 
The company my OB uses, Counsyl, also offers a $249 deal for anyone who does not want to use their insurance policy.

We had Progenity test done. My doctor told us it would be $99 with or without insurance so we had it done. 5 weeks later we received our EOB and the test actually costs $7,500 and that our doctor told us the wrong information as the $99 deal was just that, a deal they ran and had stopped in January and our insurance is not going to cover it! So I would make sure you know exactly what your insurance is going to pay for and what they won’t pay for as most insurances don’t see the blood test as a necessary test to have.🙃

I got it done before my husband and I started trying to conceive. It was through Counsyl and it was $300. My results all came back negative except for something called fragile x syndrome. We didn’t bother getting my husband tested because for most of the syndromes they check for you need two markers.

My insurance paid for mine because of my age. It only picks up a few of the most common things. I liked it because we knew what we were having at 9 weeks.

I did the AFT test at 16 weeks it’s the test for down syndrome, spinal bifida and T18 and my insurance covered it.
