How soon can you get on-base housing?

Question

I know it depends, but how long should I expect to wait for family housing on base after my husband is stationed? My husband should be finishing basic and AIT when I'm 33 weeks pregnant, and I'm not thinking I'll want to move too close to my due date, or soon after giving birth. We're thinking I should just stay with my parents until housing is available and I'm ready to move, but how long will that be? Is it possible that housing will be available immediately upon finishing training?

It really depends on a lot of different factors...Sometimes we were in within a few weeks,other times we waited up too a month

It depends... we had been on the housing list for a year, we’re already approved and guaranteed a house, we were number 2 on the list for that month so it was a sure thing we got the house. I was 8.5 months pregnant a week from moving EVERYTHING on base, already told our apartment we were moving and we called to find out which house we were getting.... they said that our house wouldn’t be available for another 2-3 months 🙃🙃🙃 meanwhile my husband was two states away at a 6 weeks course for his job. So I had to reverse EVERYTHING or we were gonna be homeless, luckily our apartment is AMAZING and let us stay even though they had new tenants assigned to our apartment already!

I swear we are the same person ! My husband gets back from basic when I’m 31 weeks. I really don’t want to move around that time, either. I heard from my mom (dad was navy) that waitlists can be ridiculous, so we won’t be living on base while he does his schooling.

It depends on the waitlist sometimes it can take months or weeks other times they have houses available right away. It depends on what you can get for the BAH you have and what’s available in that range.

He’ll get his base assigned at the end of ait and then he can call and request housing, depending on the base size and list it could be a week or month. Our first base we waited a week for housing. Also depends if you’re picky
