Can I get Medicaid as a single mom?

So, my son’s “father” is not in the picture. Has never met him. Isn’t on the birth certificate. Hasn’t seen ME since my first trimester. Wants nothing to do with him. I’m wondering if I can qualify for Medicaid without involving him whatsoever? My friend is in the same boat and said she didn’t qualify because her baby’s father doesn’t pay child support.

in Illinois is just asks for house hold income. if he isn't in the house, I don't think it would matter. I'm married so I can't say for sure, but I think you would still be able to qualify if your income is low enough

I think it depends on the state but I know friends in the same boat. They don't receive it because they don't receive/won't file for child support. But I've read some states don't require it though. Your best bet would be to fill out an application and ask when they call to interview you. It wont hurt to try.

In my state they do ask for my kids fathers info and if he pays child support but they never really enforced it if it was required. If you really need the Medicaid I would just lie and say he gives you a little amount cash 🤷🏻‍♀️
