I’m being charged $675 for an std test?

My health insurance card says I don’t have to pay anything for gynecologist appointments why am I being charged so much for an std test? Has this happened to anyone before? Is it a mistake

I would think it is because they pay 100% for preventative visits. An STD test is not preventative. Plus the STD test is not billed as a OBGYN visit, it is lab work, which probably has a different rate.

Are you looking at your actual bill or what was sent to the insurance company or your explanation of benefits. Just call insurance company to clarify

Did you get a bill for it? I would make sure your doctor is correctly (and actually) billing your insurance. I've had issues where some doctors take my insurance info, but never actually bill them.

It could mean that it just covers preventative care exams. Like paps and shots. I dont think STD tests are included in them, but i could be wrong. Call your insurance company and see what they say!

Most insurances pay for a yearly (one time thing), any other appointments are considered a specialist (especially for a Gyno) which you have a percentage of a deductible you'd pay up front with the plan you chose. Seems as if your deductible would be the 675$. Simple.
