Does it bother you if your toddler answers by saying “what?” When you call their name?

What are they supposed to say? “Yes mother what may I do for you”?

My kid mimics what we do. So she either says “yes” or looks at us and waits. So if it bothers you, find out who they are copying and ask them to model a different behavior. Little one pick it up.

Lol 😂 In a Caribbean and an African home (I’m half-half), it’s always been “yes, ma’am,” anything short of that was considered bad manners.

I was raised to respond with “Yes” when someone calls me. I have raised my children to do the same. Saying “what” sounds disrespectful to me especially when a child is responding to an adult. I would lose my shit if I heard my kid saying “what” to their teacher. But again, not all of us are raised the same, so to each their own.
