Can contractions be not so painful?

I'm a first time mom and I will be 39 weeks tomorrow, I think I'm having contractions but they feel more like period cramps, so they feel more uncomfortable than painful. Can this be possible? I'm sorry if I sound ridiculous but I don't really know what to expect since this is my first baby. So please help so I know to be ready or pack my things !!

I was walking around and laughing with my mum and husband until 8cm so it's possible lol

It's possible. My contractions weren't painful at first. They got painful once I dialated to about 6

With my son I was never in pain, I also got an epidural early on before they got to bad. With my daughter I wasn't in any real pain until my water broke. So it's possible.

It's definitely possible. Mine were like that until I went to the hospital and was 8cms! They broke my water and then they got more intense but before then I was totally in denial it was real.

You could just be having Braxton Hicks contractions.. Believe me, once you're in labor, YOU'LL KNOW. It's not just like period cramps. It's unlike anything you've ever felt before. Not to scare you or anything... Lol

My doctor asks me every appointment if I have contractions. If I do, they don't bother me. I have been getting small period like cramps, but that's about it. So far I'm exactly like my mom was. Hopefully ghis baby just falls out of me like we all pretty much fell out of my mom....

Yup! That's how mine were until I was in that last phase before pushing. I actually was having contractions for days and I had no idea.

I talked to someone today who had preterm labor at 34 weeks and didn't feel any contractions. She was seen in the office for bleeding and was told to go straight to labor and delivery because she was almost fully dilated. She had to deliver without an epidural almost as soon as she got to L&D!

That's how my labor started. I had menstrual type cramps and they got progressively worse as the time went by.

That's how my labor started. I actually texted a friend and asked the same thing because I thought contractions would feel different or start off more painful. I walked around with consistent period-like cramps for a full day, was up all night because they became too painful to sleep through, and had my baby at 6pm the next day. Good luck!
