Tricare prime?

Does anyone have tricare prime? I’m in Washington and madigan is all but refusing to do an ultrasound to see how far along I am since I don’t know when my last period was because they were irregular after I stopped nursing my son. They also don’t seem too concerned that I’m showing signs of preeclampsia yet again. I asked for a referral somewhere else and they said I basically don’t have a choice in my prenatal care. Does anyone have advice?

The only other I can think of is to go into the ER or urgent care to get screened for preeclampsia because they can’t turn down tricare patients and they don’t require referrals and then have them do the referral from there. I have seen some patients work that loophole to get in to see certain specialists. Tricare prime is just such a hassle I hate it for you and for our active military personnel and all spouses  having to deal with all these hurdles to jump through to receive mediocre care at best. Tricare for life is the only one without all the hurdles.

I know Tricare has providers you can search in your area on their website. Now I know it’s not a whole lot without a referral and because you’re on prime it is going to be limited. I don’t have prime but I did used to work insurance in a doctors office who accepted tricare and they make EVERYTHING difficult. Your ob does not have to be the one making the referral though, your primary care doctor could make the referral. The loophole is to find a doctor who you already see regardless of specialty  who is willing to make the referral for you.

The not getting an early us isn’t just a military hospital or Tricare issue. I’ve delivered 2 civilian and 1 military, and I’m pregnant with my fourth and being seen at a mil hospital. I’ve only had an early ultrasound with these last two, which were BOTH at military facilities. The third was due to many prior miscarriages, and this one was due to already having issues prior to pregnancy and they needed to check for ectopic pregnancy. With my two civilian deliveries, they refused to give me an early us just for dating even though I was very irregular. They didn’t deem it “necessary”. Im very familiar with Madigan, delivered my third there and was seen throughout my whole pregnancy there. Now im being seen at Tripler. Madigan was definitely better. ObGYN at Madigan has a walk-in area on the further right side. Wait can be very long but they take normal business hour ob walk-ins. Have them do your bp again and bring up your concerns. Preeclampsia is much more common after the 20th week, this early on they may not call it preeclampsia yet and just start monitoring if they start seeing regular concerning bp tests. If you’re truly concerned, go to walk-in at the OB. Bring up your concerns and they will address it. If you think about it, if every single person with a bad bp reading immediately had to be tested for preeclampsia, it would be so many unnecessary extra tests. Shoot I’ve had one or two bad reading in each of my pregnancies but never needed up with preeclampsia. I know i wouldn’t appreciate it if they ordered extra tests that early on over a bad reading. If it was multiples then yea, that’s understandable. I haven’t had an issue with Tricare or military hospitals.
