Doctor wants to induce labor early

So at my first doctors appointment my doctor let me and my boyfriend know that our due date was December 26th, we talked about my previous labor and delivery with my son. (9 years ago with a different doctor) and then he said to expect the baby home by Christmas because he would induce me. I was fine with it I trust he knows what he’s doing but now a friend of mine was telling me it’s very unnecessary and not natural to do it that way. Anyone ever been induced? Was it a good or bad thing?
