TW: Is your SO being unsupportive of mental illness a deal breaker?

Brittany

I read a couple posts about mental health and how their partners are unsupportive or don’t believe their mental health issues exist.

For me, I was with someone who didn’t support my mental health for years. For that reason, I spent 6 years on the brink of suicide with a eating disorder so bad I was vomiting blood. Nobody knew. The only thing that kept me alive was my dog. My SO now understands my mental illness and is there for me, no matter what. He doesn’t agree with medical interventions, but he supports it if it’s necessary and understands that some days are so damn hard they are crushing. At this point, I have to be with someone who understands my mental illness. It’s officially a deal breaker for someone to tell me it’s all in my head or that I need to get over it or refuses hear me out when I talk about it. What about you?
