So what is it with women bleeding during pregnancy?

I have seen many a time on this app of stories of women who claim to have their period several months into a pregnancy.... 
How can this be? Anything I've been taught in school or have been told by a doctor is that if you have a period it's a pretty good sign you aren't pregnant. 
I've heard heavy bleeding isn't okay in pregnancy but saw some stories of women who had it a lot and were just fine!
My doc said it's the same with withdrawal bleeds on birth control because the hormones are dropping, where in pregnancy they won't drop. 
So what's up with that? I'm very confused now

Lots of reasons. Placenta Previa is one example that can cause bleeding throughout the pregnancy.

It’s quite common to bleed in your first trimester. So they mistake it for a period when it isn’t. Everyone is different tho but the pregnancy sings are usually there - just having a bleed I’ll make u think other wise

I don’t know the exact cause. Personally I think it depends on how healthy the mom going into it is. But some do bleed through the first trimester and some even the hole time and it’s basically spotting not period version.

Most of the cases I have read on here they were all in the early stages so it was probably a miscarriage cause it isn’t ok to bleed during pregnancy. I personally have never known anyone to have a period during pregnancy and for everything to be ok.

I thought you only bled some during implantation? That’s just what I’ve read and have heard.
