How do you get your baby to corporate when brushing teeth?

She literally cries everytime she sees the toothbrush and smacks me, pushes me, bashes her head into me, when I try to brush her teeth. How do I get her to cooperate?

You don’t have to use anything but water at that age. Let her hold it and chew on it. Get used to it.

I swaddle her in a towel after bath or a cozy blanket. She fights it but it helps.

How old is your little? Since my girl was about a year old we’ve asked her to open her mouth, then when she does, in a very silly and dramatic way we’ll pretend to freak out and yell SUGAR BUGS!! Now she’s two and a half and loves to brush the “sugar bugs” away and laughs and squeals and giggles when I pretend to see them in her mouth. We turned tooth brushing into a fun silly game that she looks forward to every day!

If my baby doesn’t want to do things I do them with her. If she doesn’t  want to eat a certain food I eat with her and smile, if she doesn’t want to wash her gums (no teeth yet) I brush my teeth and make it seem fun, if she doesn’t want her diaper changed I smile and pretend it’s all in good fun. If you’re getting frustrated with her she might just start thinking it’s a frustrating thing that is uncomfortable.

I’m not sure how old she is, but for a little while I would try using just water until she can accept it a little better. Then maybe take her shopping with you and pick what toothpaste she likes? Some of them have princesses or other random characters on them. There are also cute toothbrushes for little little babies to help get them used to toothbrushes sooner- they’re like cute food shapes and stuff but still have bristles. If you can find any way at all to turn it into a game for her, or even maybe make it prize based, that might help a little. Good luck!! 😬

YouTube “Elmo teeth brushing song”... begin dancing like a maniac and brushing my own teeth, hand him a toothbrush, brush his dolls teeth while dancing around the house. The toothbrush usually makes it into his mouth while he laughs and I get a few good swipes in.

How old and does she have actual teeth? People will shame me but when my son didn’t have teeth I gave up the battle of trying to gum brush him. He was a monster and it just wasn’t the battle I wanted. Now at 8 months and 4 teeth he sits on the counter and opens his mouth for me to brush his teeth.

You could try a vibrating tooth brush or just letting her do it while you brush your teeth.
