How early is too early to know? *please reply*

I see stories all the time where people get engaged and they’ve only been together like a month or maybe even less. In those stories, those people have been married for many years after that. My boyfriend and I (both grown adults) have been together for 7 months and we’ve been talking about marriage since like a month in. Is 7 months too early to get engaged? How long did you guys wait to get engaged?

Answer

We lived together & dated for 4 years before getting engaged. It was a timeframe we had agreed upon in the beginning of our relationship. We wanted to make sure we really knew each other, would keep choosing each other, and 100% would fight to make this relationship work. Time reveals all things. I know that some people get engaged after a few months and then are married for the rest of their lives but I feel like that is such a bad model. I really hate the "when you know, you know" narrative. Relationships go through so many stages and I think it is a little irresponsible to make such a huge life choice while you are still in the honeymoon stage of your relationship. That's why we chose to wait so long. Marriage at this point probably wouldn't feel any different than the life we are already living. But I feel extremely confident in my chosen husband because we've spent so long getting to know, and learning to love every single part of each other. There is no way in hell I could say the same thing about our relationship 7 months in. But that is just what was best for us. I could say so much more on this subject but this reply is getting long, so I'll respectfully step off my soapbox. Good luck in your relationship and congrats if you do take the next step.

Whatever works for you guys, crazy enough (not relating to marriage) but my SO and I moved in together within a week of knowing eachother lol. We are now coming up to our 4 year anniversary and are not married yet.
