Is it bad/ stupid if I pray to a god I didn’t believe in?

I don’t believe in God. But I’m going through a tough time with a divorce and trying to keep my baby and I’m praying and I’m begging and I’m going to anyone that will listen to my plead . Most of my friends are religious and I love them and support them And go to church when they need me, I used to be catholic as well I just found different ideas to believe in. After I told them I’m getting a divorce they said I was in their prayers and it felt good.

Sometimes we pray just to get our worries, our dreams, our thoughts out into the universe.  If someone or something is out there listening, great; if not, that’s okay too.  Sometimes it just helps to feel like we’ve been heard.  At the end of the day, isn’t that what we all want?  To be listened to?

There are many different religions and they each have their own higher power. It’s not weird to pray or have faith in something. It just might not be the same god/goddess as someone else and that’s ok. I’m pagan and when something happened in my husbands family I said I would pray for them. My MIL responded “how do you pray if you don’t believe in god?” A lot of people can’t see beyond their religion and their god.

I dont think I could ever call prayer stupid or bad. I prayed to a God I wasn't sure I believed in for YEARS. Religion is a constant search imo. Sometimes it's a journey you aren't even aware youre truly on. Sometimes your heart is more in tune with your faith/spirutuality than you think. And sometimes, yes, prayer is something people just use for comfort in times of distress. And that's okay. "God" doesnt belong to just one faith or spiritual identity. You can simply just be sending your prayers out into the universe, and the universe sends vibes back. Keep on praying love. To God, the moon, some big vast something or other you dont quite understand, whatever brings you comfort and healing. Dont let anyone discourage you.
