Can I do it?

Question

Just signed the TOLAC (trial of labor after cesarean) form at my doctor today. I had one previous cesarean at 39w4d 6 years ago. But i am overweight 306lbs. No medical problems and over all heathly besides the extra weight. My doctor wants me to pick a date somewhere between 39 and 41 weeks and if i dont go into labor before that day he will schedule a cesarean.  Im worried rhat my body wont go into labor and i really DO NOT want another cesarean. I felt i was pushed into the first one by my doctor because of my weight and that he had to be out of town the following week. But i never got the chance to even try labor during my last birth. It was just a scheduled cesarean. I dont know if my body will do as I want it to.

You can do it! I had a successful VBAC at similar size. Your body will take over. Do everything you can to make sure your birth plan includes as many comforts/anxiety relieving pieces as it can. We had no students, low lighting, limited cervical checks and some other small accommodations. I was really focused on staying as relaxed as possible so my body could do what it was made to do :). This is coming from someone who had similar thoughts as you...I was terrified of trying to labor, I wanted to schedule another c section because I don’t feel like I can mentally or physically handle labor. Plus, what if my body fails?? I met with a different doctor in my obs office and I wish I could have recorded her “speech” to play for everyone lol. She completely turned my head around! Our bodies are literally made for this! The fact that you didn’t labor before means when it comes to labor, you’re basically a first time mom. You don’t know how it’s going to go, no one can answer that, but if you trust your doctor and your hospital, and willing to accept interventions/pain medicines (within reason) you will be fine. I would schedule for 41 weeks, give your body as much time as possible. My doctor is the same, they won’t induce me and won’t let me go past 41 weeks. I have been seeing a chiropractor to help baby get/stay in the proper position and I try to walk as much as possible! And as soon as I’m 36 weeks, I’m going to try every old wives tale in the book to help cervix softening/dilation 😂. So to answer your question, I totally think you can do it!! Just take some time to do some research and educate yourself 😊
