The idea that you should use your own colour in a gif

There are actual people on sites which allow texts like this one who stress the idea that they ‘need’ to have a person of their colour on a gif that they use. Why? It’s just a gif!

Are people so afraid of the other colour that they think they will lower or raise the levels of melanin in their body by using a gif of a white, mixed or black person ?

Please explain this to me as I just don’t get it. It’s not racist to use a gif of a person who’s the opposite colour. If anything, it just makes people subconsciously segregate people of different colour from themselves.
