How long to nurse on each side?

Baby is 4 days old. Has an ok latch and can suck on both sides for 45 min. My question is is that too much or not enough. Do i just let him keep going till he stops on that side?

He’s probably cluster feeding. Let him go for as long as he wants, it’s best for your milk supply.
I always let my daughter go for as long as she wanted on one side and when she pulled off or stopped sucking, I’d burp her and then offer the second side if she was still acting hungry. Sometimes she’d take it, sometimes she wouldn’t.
Limiting time spent on each side will either land you with an upset baby because they want to keep nursing or they could end up not getting enough of the fatty hind milk that they need.
If baby only eats on one side during a feeding, make sure to offer the opposite breast first for the next feeding.

At that age their cluster feeding. If your nipple is getting sore, or on boobease and switch strides at the half hour mark. Worked so well for me!

He could be comfort nursing, which is ok. Is he spitting up at all? I found that if I let my baby stay on more than 30 min, he would spit up some (not a lot) So I usually pull him off after 30 min. You could try pulling him off at 20 min on the 1st side and then do 20 min on the other side. If he is still really fussy, giving hunger cues.. then he needs more. Even if he does need that much.. it won't be like that forever. Could also be a growth spurt.
