Is saying hurtful things ever forgivable?

So ive been really caught up in beauty guru drama on Y.T. so i thought id bring the drama here lol 😂 
If someone says something hurtful, oppressive, or bigoted is it ever forgivable? Rather it comes from a place of hurt, bullying, or ignorance what would qualify one to be fogiven? Would they have to just make a public apology and move on? Is an apology enough or would they have to show they have changed b4 being forgiven?

Yeah it can be forgivable. Some people say things out of ignorance... I’m sure most of us had said some dumb things when we were young and didn’t know better. Or sometimes people genuinely change, which I can forgive people for. 
If someone said some racist crap yesterday and then posts some PR crafted “apology” then no since its not genuine.

It depends on what’s said. I was called a “whore” by a group of guy friends because I wouldn’t have sex with my boyfriend when I was 15.
When I was 14, a girl I thought really cared for me spread rumours about me faking my Nan’s death for attention.
I forgave the guys. I never forgave her. I’ll never forget either event.

Well I’ve noticed that in the YouTube community, they are only “sorry” when they become exposed. So I’m not entirely sure.

Racism is NOT forgivable. She said hateful things and she should know better. Telling black people to pull up their pants so they can run faster from cops MONTHS AFTER Trayvon Martin was murdered is hateful. I’ll never forgive Jeffree Star for his hateful racist comments either. Both are racists so I’m not surprised they were friends at one point.

Is this the laura lee scandal? Or another one? There’s never ending ones in the beauty world. 
But if they say racist and/or bigoted things, there’s no moving past that. I don’t forgive and forget when people make statements that degrade groups of people, whether that be minorities, LGBTQ, etc etc. an apology is usually made to preserve their fan base, not because they regret it

It can be forgivable, but to a certain degree. The beauty youtuber would not even own up to her mistakes or address the issue at hand. Instead of blatantly telling people what she did and owning up to it, she tried to put the blame on others countless times by first saying the tweets were photoshopped and then saying she only “retweeted” them rather than tweeting them herself, even though she typed them herself. 
I think people can change and people do grow up but some things just can’t be forgiven and forgotten quickly. I noticed a lot of people who were not affected by the tweets commenting that they forgive her, but it’s not their place to do so. 
I think she made her case worse by how she reacted and showed people she hasn’t grown since then, but i do think that as people grow up and make their own opinions for themselves, they do change and can be forgiven to a certain degree

If the person issues a genuine apology and understands why it's wrong then I'd move on. Especially if the incident was years ago

Yes and no. I've been able to forgive a few, others I couldn't. It can be done though, if that's something you want to do. I would say that it depends on whether the person you're trying to forgive actually tries to make amends with you either by apologizing to you, or trying to change their behavior, but then again... but you can forgive them regardless for the sake of your own sanity, which I've had to do a few times as well.
