Should I apologize to my coworker?
So back story: my friend got married a weeks ago and it was a freaking disaster. The mother of the bride kept trying to talk the bride out of it because of the groom is Mexican and apparently she wasn’t cool with that. (Bride’s family is Korean.) anyways, MOB kept making the bride feel awful all week and even caused a small scene at the rehearsal. All is well now that they are married, but I was telling the story to my coworkers. I have a coworker from Mexico, and I know he’s dated girls of other races so I asked if he had ever experienced problems with parents not approving the relationship. He got a weird look on his face and was like “uh. No” and seemed kinda peeved. I told him I was just asking to see if it was a frequent issue in our society or not. Anyways, I went on with my day and later overheard him telling another coworker (who’s white like me) about what I said and he was like “wow I can’t believe she asked you that.”
Did I do something offensive? If I should apologize, please give advice on how I should without digging a deeper hole. Thanks.
