I'm an broken, do I leave the cats or fight for them?

I rescued the girls 2 years ago and they have been living with my boyfriends mom while I'm in a hotel. I want to be done with my relationship with him which it's been toxic, but he has also mentally snapped. That is why they're still with him and it kills me to think I may never see them again, but do I continue to try and fight for them or give up? I lied to his mom saying my parents are coming into town and the girls need to be there and his mom is going to bring them but I hope this goes through. She was the one who said get a hotel and get the girls on the 27th, but it seems like she is not holding up to that. I had to lie to at least get them. Guys I'm heart broken, I don't ever want to say bye to them and I'm not the person to just move on. I just don't want to be in a relationship with him and sadly I got them with him, but I pay for all their vet, food, etc
