Your opinion on passing down names?

So my SO wants to name our baby after him if it's a boy which would make our child the 3rd. I however believe in be unique an every person deserves their pop own name to grow with. To me sometimes names especially passed down tend to carry negative energy(some say cursed) from those who have tainted it previously and in n his and his father's case their name has been very tarnished due to their choices in life(things like cheating) I do believe people can change and they both seem to have been doing better but I really don't want that negative legacy following my child for life. what is your opinion on passing down names?

My husband wants a junior, and I’m more than happy to oblige. I don’t believe that a name predetermines your child’s likelihood of cheating or bad luck. That just sounds like nonsense to me.
Whatever you name your child, they’re going to be their own person. And a “unique” name is almost an oxymoron because assuming you’re not naming your child something totally made up or outrageous (like, I don’t know, Hippopotamus?), someone else is going to have that name, like James or Bob or Xander, or Joseph.
If your husband is really keen on passing down his name then I recommend you discuss it as an actual possibility. Besides, he can always go by a nickname. My husband prefers his middle name, Daniel and if we have a son who’ll be his junior, I plan on calling him Danny. There are so many options.

I don't like it either. He's a new human, a whole person, and he deserves his own name. Juniors also often feel too much pressure to "live up to the name" or to live their life how their dad wants. Young men often feel enough of that pressure anyway without their name subtly telling them everyday that they're just an extension of their dad and meant to carry on his legacy, rather than find their own purpose and dreams.
If he wants it but you don't then it's off the table. It's your child too. There were lots of names I liked but my husband didn't, and names he liked but I didn't, and they were all off the table, because we both need to like the name. The junior thing is no different. If you don't want it, it's not an option.

I personally don't like the idea of it, and I would never pass a name down, but I don't hate the idea or judge anyone who does. It's just not my thing and I think it's more fun to be able to pick something special and personal for each baby. But it's up to you 💗. Possibly make it a middle name? My grandpa's name is Walter and that was his son's middle name.

My son is technically going to be Timothy C (last name) III. My husband has the same first name as his dad, but a different middle name, and goes by his middle name. Our son will do the same. This way, the name gets passed down, but each person has their own name.

I wouldn’t name my child after their father but I have named my son after my grandfather because him and I were very very close and he was a great man. The name has been in my family for generations and I’m proud of giving my son that name.

I think you’re love for them should out way their mistakes. We all make mistakes. No matter what name you give him he could still have a similar personality as his Dad and Grandpa. Were you the one cheated on? If so, I understand why you would not want to use it. And kuddos to you for sticking with him. If you aren’t the victim how much has it affected your life?

My husband wants our son to be named as a junior and I see no problem with it. It's something he really wants and I love my husband so I'm obliging. If it was a girl in would have named her lol that's just my opinion though.

I’m not a fan of it in general but I especially don’t like the kid being called Junior or having the confusion of both Dad and Son going by the same exact name on a daily basis. Like it’s better to me if the Dad and Son have the same name but have different nicknames like they’re both named Charles legally but the dad goes by Chuck and the kid goes by Charlie, or the they’re both legally Robert but Dad goes by Bob and the kid goes by Robbie.
