So piggy backing off my "should he resign post". I thought id bring this here for discussion. 
How are we feeling about the popes speech today? 
Is this an example of blissful ignorance,  blatant intolerance, both? 
Should he resign after the backlash not only rhe sexual abuse allegations but now the intolerance hes preaching? 
Would u even consider it to be intolerant?

I don’t have a problem with what he said. All LGBTQIA minors should have the support of a counselor. And they shouldn’t be ignored or condemned by their family. They deserve the acceptance of their family, community and the church.

This actually infuriated me. What does he mean that a lot can be done with psychiatry?  To me, that’s him inferring that something is wrong with a person if they are gay. Also, when he says a lot can be done with psychiatry, is he trying to refer to conversion therapy?  Idn, I’m a psych student and that part really rubbed me the wrong way.

Ok as someone who is lgbt and went through hell as a youth I think these kids should go through counselling. Do you know what lgbt youths put up with? I remember being twelve years old and a guy nearly two years older than me walked into my English classroom, pointed at me and shouted dyke. That’s just one example of many incidents. It’s absolutely hell, and you get all this shit from the media, your classmates, your own family. Send them to see someone they can talk to about it, but not who will try to change who they are

This is a great example of how detrimental religion is to societies all around the world. Also what he said will be so profoundly influential to so many thousands of people (religious people) in so many countries across the world, as they will receive this message as the "only truth" and embrace the "truth" as instructions on how to live (and try to be a decent human being), his message "do not condemn your gay child" will probably (literally) help prevent thousands of parents from "condemning" their children, so that's a positive, but the other rubbish about gay people needing psychiatry, well hopfuly most parents will be in a position with spare disposable income to afford to take their kids to a medically trained psychiatrist doctor who will happily correct the pope and explain to them in person how normal and healthy they are just the way they are. Check-mate I say (to the pope)

It’s kind of confusing because part of the article hints that he’s saying going to therapy can “fix” them but is also saying pray to understand the children... sooo acceptance?
