Medical ids, tats, cards, and jewelry
I recently found out I am rh negative. My aunt is a nurse and suggested that I get some form of notification whether it be a card for my wallet, a tat (I love tats anyways lol), or a braclet. I also have epilepsy so I could put that on there as well.
This got me thinking. Do first responders even really look for those things if I'm unconscious? I know first priority is to ressesitate me but what about after that? Not many people have them notification of health issues like jewelery. If I were a emt, I don't know that it would be my first thought to scour a body looking for tats. And what if someone forgot the jewelry or it got broke in the accident??
So here's my question. What would you think about everyone being required by law to own a card that has information about your medical issues like high blood pressure, epilepsy, diabetes, or even DNR. It would be required for you to have it on your person just like an ID.
**I do realize not everyone has health issues so some cards may actually be mostly blank with just a name and emergency contact** The idea behind this is that EVERYONE has one so first responders know to look for it every time and where it would be.
Would it be worth it?
Would you carry it?
Personally, I'm not all for being required to carry something but I would also see its benefit especially considering my issues. I feel like it would actually save some lives, maybe even my own. Obviously this is a little far fetched of an idea...but thoughts?
