Why does it take so long?

Can someone please tell why it takes babies so long to sleep all night? I am Tired of getting up at night. I think 6 months half a year is ridiculous to be getting up through the night what normal human being would put their selves through this kinda hell? My daughter is 14 weeks a little over 3 months and I already feel like I’ve been getting woke up for years! I’m starting to regret even having her this just doesn’t seem normal to me that any human would want to go through this it just doesn’t worth it to me getting up for so long at night seems so inhumane to the parents!!!

You regret having your daughter because she wakes up at 3 MONTHS in the middle of the night. Did you think parenting would be all rainbows and butterflies???

That’s perfectly normal for a baby that age. You really shouldn’t start sleep training until your baby is at least 6 months or older. At three months, baby only cry because they need something. Maybe see your doctor if you are feeling so unwell emotionally. You may have some postpartum depression creeping in.

This is what we sign up for as parents unfortunately. My 16 month old still doesnt sleep through the night. She used to but then when her molars started coming through that was the end of that and it's been going on for around 3 months now. I'm about to have another baby in 2 months.

Maybe go in and get checked for PPD. If you are regretting her I would get checked. Being a parent is hard. At times you feel like you will fall apart but it gets better with time and you fall into a routine.

Wow, these comments. 
Any mom who says they haven’t been there is lying. Probably not actually regretting the baby, but wondering when the torture will end. Yes, sleep deprivation is a form of torture. I promise you is gets so much better. Eventually they do sleep through the night. 
 Some things that helped me is: 
Pitch black, black garbage bags over the windows then pretty curtains over. That’s the only way I got it completely black. 
Sound machine.
A solid sleep routine 
Giving the baby a chance to learn how to sooth, letting a baby fuss a little to sleep is fine. Obviously don’t let them scream their head off.

Honestly I get it. My son JUST started sleeping 7 hour stretches at 8 weeks old. Before that he was up literally every hour, and I’m the only one who gets up with him at night. And I take care of him all day. It’s EXHAUSTING. Some nights did feel a little “inhuman” as you put it. Going 48, 76+ hours with MAYBE 2-3 hours of sleep is HARD, you start resenting your partner/child due to sleep deprivation. I wouldn’t go as far as saying your a shit parent and don’t deserve children because of what you feeling, like others have said. They don’t know EXACTLY how your child is, so for them your child could be “easy” but to you your child might be borderline the antichrist come night time. So who are we to judge a mom having to deal with that on her own? Saying you should have known what you were signing up for is bull shit. Some people have super easy babies, some people have straight up demon babies. It is NOT okay to tell a sleep deprived mom that doing her best, that she’s a shit parent for venting and trying to get out her frustration. Not okay one bit.

From raising my two babies, I truly believe that you have to teach your children everything. That includes how to sleep. I begin the Babywise method around 2 weeks old with my children. Both have begun sleeping through the night around 6-7 weeks and stuck with it. I’ve never dealt with sleep regressions so many talk about. I highly recommend purchasing a copy of on Becoming Babywise and reading the whole thing. You need to read it all to fully understand the method. Women who complain of the harmful effects it can have take the method out of context or misapply it. If you follow what it actually says, you can help your baby to learn to eat well and sleep well. Hang in there mama. It is HARD to take care of an infant and it is HARD to not get sleep. Motherhood is sacrifice, but sacrificing sleep does a number on you. This too shall pass. You can do it!

Please do see a doctor about your PPD. This is 100% normal behavior for this age and I hate to break it to you, but some babies still don't sleep through the night even at 6mos, 1 year, etc. There is no shame in getting medication for PPD but there is shame in doing nothing and potentially lashing out at an innocent baby.

It’s normal. Expecting something to get on s perfect 24 hour schedule, with no concept of time is so unrealistic. That’s part of being a mother. For the next 18 years you probably won’t fell like you’ve slept at all.
