Newborn straining to pass gas and poo, but not constipated? + Gas med question.
My 3wk old appears to strain to pass gas and poo - she’s restless in her sleep at night because of it and fussy during the day when she struggled because of it.
The poos are rather normal in color and pretty runny (she’s breastfed, but does get one substitute of formula a day at the moment).
Is this normal? My mom seems concerned it isn’t (apparently I struggled as a baby and they allegedly had to “stretch my bottom”- that was 34 years ago though).
I was also wondering how long those of you who have/had gassy or colicky babies used gas meds for?
This past week was miserable for all of us until we realized she was gassy and her tummy was bothering her. Once we started using meds (mylicon was recommended by her pediatrician) regularly we immediately noticed a difference. I just wonder if it’s okay to use these everyday for an extended period of time? I know most babies aren’t just colicky or gassy for a few days, it’s months long. So I’m assuming these medicines are used for extended periods of time?
I’d ask the doctor, but it’s Saturday... so I though I’d see what other parents are doing in such situations?
Thanks!
