How long should feeding be?

My daughter is 3 months old and a good eater. However each feed can last up to or over 40 minutes.  She always takes 2 boobs and will stay latched on and sucking each one for up to 20 mins. Is this too long? I'm reluctant to pull her off in case she hasn't finished but people have started commenting on how long she feeds for.

I was concerned about long feedings, it was making me raw and in pain. I had a lactation consultant come to my home and she taught me the best trick. No, 40 min. Feeding is NOT normal, baby is using u as a pacifier. After like 10min, lift babies arm. If babies arm is limp she is done eating. If babies arm is tense and she pulls it back down then she is still eating. Your welcome! This tip saved me from quitting nursing, I am now 14 months exclusively nursing!

My daughter used to cluster feed like this. Grab u a couple bottles of water, some snacks, get comfy and find a good Netflix show to binge watch 🙃

Sounds like she is comfort nursing.  You should be able to tell if she’s nursing by looking at the movement of her bottom jaw: if nursing, there will be much more movement along with deep sucks. If it’s just comfort nursing, there is still movement but much less.
I highly recommend seeing a lactation consultant if you can! They’ll be able to help with this.

Babies know when they’ve had enough. I had that same thing happened but my supply and demand schedule never worked out so I did have to let her latch for LONG periods of time. For a while I was nursing 16 hours a day with maybe 2 or 3 half hour breaks.
