Do you give your kids junk?

Kris🕷 • 19🌿 My boy is here!

Me and my baby’s father got into an argument this morning about parenting. ( I know these are things you talk about before you have kids, but he switches up)

So we were talking about schooling and what we’d prefer to do. Then he butts in and says “and another thing, our kid can’t have ANY candy.”

Now, this may sound like a waste of time but just hear me out.

I asked “I don’t get a choice?” He explains that it’s what’s best and he doesn’t want his kid eating any sugar besides fruit. Kids are annoying and will beg for that sort of thing. I suggest to him that if we’re going to cut out bad sugar, we might as well cut out all the cereals that he loves, chips, sodas, juices, etc. We should just get rid of all the junk. I also explain that not all kids excessively beg and cry when they don’t get their way. We can try out best to teach our kids how to respond differently to no and even reward them for good behavior.

Once I said that, he begins to get increasingly more upset. Saying that I’m being extra and unnecessary, everything that he wants is a no. When I explained why I came up with that point he began to say (he always does this crap) that’s exactly what he said. And he was going to do that anyway.

Personally, I grew up just fine with sugar and snacks. I don’t see an issue with junk, IF, given in moderation.

Long story short, what would you do/what have you done?

Controlled amounts of junk or none at all.
